Grade 6 Student Artwork – Van Gogh’s Vase of Flowers
Students in Grade 6 learned about Vincent Van Gogh. For this painting, the inspiration was Van Gogh’s Sunflower paintings. He painted a series of eleven sunflower paintings in France. Seven in Arles and four in Paris.
Students were inspired to draw and paint an original flower. There was no need to make a sunflower. Students made a detailed flower with a repeated color pattern. They painted with acrylic paints to achieve a satin finish with intense colors. The background and vase were painted directly onto the canvas with acrylic paints. Each flower was painted and cut by the students. We used a strong glue that binds the flowers onto the canvas.
The magic happened when the bouquet of flowers was assembled over the simple vase. Each student rose to the challenge of making their most unique flower for the vase.
